Wireframe
Reinspection Worksheet Wireframe
The wireframe is a lower cost alternative to a full html prototype. The utility of this tool is to elicit requirements from key stakeholders. It can be changed and updated rapidly in response to changing needs. Proposed interactions can be called out with notes for later design development. Once requirements have been vetted, the wireframe will form the basis for higher fidelity prototypes which validate the requirements and design with customers. Wireframes can also form the basis for development if interactive prototypes cannot be designed, based on cost or technical limitations. Because of confidentiality, this image has been blurred.

Reinspection Reports UI Specification Document
Reporting for our online applications is the most important service that we offer. Consistency is key across all reports both in terms of how to create a report as well as how it is displayed and interacted with. This document identifies the common set of reports criteria as well as what the results will look like. The emphasis is on dynamic, interactive reports which allow the user to drill down (or up) to the appropriate level of granularity as well as view the information in a preferred format.
The purpoes of the UI Specification is to provide a blueprint for development. Based on this document, the reports can be built exactly as designed. The specification includes screen shots, data fields, data tables, buttons, behaviors, user assist messages, data validation. Because of confidentiality, only the table of contents are available online.

Usability Study
Remote Usability Findings
The multiselect button (listed below) is a relatively unfamiliar design component for an online application. It was designed to be simple and intuitive, but it needed to be tested with users in order to verify its effectiveness and efficiency. The design was tested against a more conventional drop down menu with a go button. Results are discussed in the Remote Usability Findings document. Because of confidentiality, only the table of contents are available online. Remote Usability testing is a paradigm which I developed to conduct usability tasks over a webinar session remotely. The procedure itself is provided in the supporting Remote Usability Testing Procedure document.

Interactive Controls
Data Grid Filter
This control was a solution to the need to allow multiple filters on a data grid for online applications. It was important to maximize the space available for the results or rows of the data grid so this control was built as expandable and within the grid itself.
The label will display the number of filters applied to the data grid to provide context for the user when viewing the result rows.
The default view is the filter subsection collapsed and no filters applied. Clicking on the '+' button will expand the filter subsection.
When expanded, the available filters will display. No changes will be applied until the user clicks the refresh button. At this point, the number of filters applied will display.
MultiSelect Button
This control was designed to match the style of page action buttons for online applications. The need was based on several factors: limited space
to display buttons, grouping of like kinds of actions, and allowing the most commonly taken action to be immediately executable.
The multiselect button in its default state. The down arrow opens up the menu of possible actions grouped in the button. The main action can be taken directly by clicking on it.
|
When the user clicks on the arrow, the arrow toggles to the up position and the menu expands. As long as the mouse is on the menu it will remain persistent. Clicking the arrow again will also close it.
Menu items highlight when moused over and clicking on any item will execute that action. The main action can still be taken on this view.
